GOAT: greatest of all time. this is a very coveted title. not many can say they are the goat of anything, let alone the sport of basketball. if you ask me, though, there is a goat of basketball; the olympian, assist-leader, and all-around champion Earvin "Magic" Johnson.

why you ask? Magic was a 6'9 point guard by classification, but rly could and did play any position on the floor, including center (rookie season championship game. wiki it.). he was a floor general w/ a knack for getting the ball anywhere on the floor at will w/ his dazzling passing. His passing is what earned his team the "Showtime" label in the 80s.

Magic's Lakers would go on to dominate the 80s w/ championship after championship. many would say that Magic had an amazing supporting cast. i beg to differ. besides Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, none of the Lakers were household names until Magic got them involved. are you trying to tell me "Big Game" James Worthy would be so "Big Game" w/o Magic. do you think people would even know who Kurt Rambis is?!?!?!? i think not.

of course people are going to disagree w/ me. some will say i'm biased b/c he played for LA. most will say the man guarding Magic in the picture above is the true goat. Magic's career was cut short due to his contraction of HIV, but his impact on the NBA and its fans still continues. he may not have a cool shoe or clothing line to continue his legacy, but it's still alive and well. his optimism is infectious and he is a role model to me + many others. how would he affect the game if he nvr got HIV? who knows........but he will always be the goat in my book regardless.
